Basant Soni

Madan mahal

Madan mahal 1450
Although an engineer by qualification, Basant took interest in art  since childhood. He has inherited this from his father who was a renowned musician & painter. His initial interest was in water and oil paintings but subsequently he started making "Collages" from Organic materials (plants-dried flowers, twigs, petals, leaves, barks of various vegetables etc). His canvas is also a thick Bark of palm tree. Things discarded by nature to perish in time is his starting point to convert it into art which remains for longer. Thus, he calls these Collages as "Immortals"  This collage depicts the Palace of Queen Rani Durgawati which is known as 'Madan Mahal'. The palace as old as more than 480 years located in Jabalpur. It was built on a very huge black stone selected as  foundation which is visible on left.
