Jayashree Burman

Artist Overview

Jayashree Burman was one of the few painters of India who has their own preferred idiom. Her art style mainly includes Indian folk tradition in visual arts. Through her paintings, she confesses her desire to see her women content in partaking in the bounties of life. Free, and at one with Nature, her woman is sometimes a coroneted ceremonial bird, and at others, a mother Goddess or a creature of the woods. Her love for nature has also been reflected in her paintings, as she reinterpret the lush green surroundings, the hybridized imagery of a woman who is more bird-like in her grace and form, the stagnant pools that bring out the flamed colours of "Basant" (spring), in her paintings. The grace in her work comes from maturity and her own contentment in life. She basically uses water colour, mixed media, acrylic and ink to paint her beautiful imagination on paper or paperboard.
