Partha Shaw

About

Born in 1971, Partha Shawis a Kolkata based eminent Indian artist. He is a painter who gave silhouette to his own vocabulary of imaginative manifestation, which is typically Indian and at the same time is full with freshness and avant-gardism.

Shaw works predominantly with landscapes, nevertheless handles them in a very modern panache. Rather than using abstract ways and means of depiction, Shaw, along with some other Bengal artists, has made use of figures in his paintings to symbolize what he desires.

Education & Work

Partha Shawis completed his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Kala Bhavan from Viswa Bharati in Kolkata in 1992. Later in 1996, he successfully completed his Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Rabindra-Bharati University in Kolkata.

Partha Shaw is a painter who got his art training in Santiniketan - a place immersed in imaginative practice and history, spawned by eminent masters like Nandalal Bose and the Tagore’s, and enriched by modern and contemporary artists like K.G. Subramanyan, Sunil Das and Dharmanarayan Dasgupta. In Santiniketan, Partha Shaw actually established how to portray his creative imagination and visualization on canvas.

Albeit, Shaw had this magnificent and brimming upbringing to derive from, he like most of the other artists there, decided to fashion panache of his own and add to the tradition he erudite from, instead of drawing on it.

He has actively organized and participated in various solo exhibition, including 'Rhythmic Significance', Gallery 88, Kolkata; Gallery OM, New Delhi and Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata.

Some of the selected group exhibition wherein Pareshmaity show cased his paintings, include 'India Rising: Tradition Meets Modernity', presented by Ate Art Gallery at Varya, New Delhi; 'Think Small', Art Alive Gallery, New Delhi; 'Eclectic Juncture', Art Alive Gallery, New Delhi; Entity', MEC Art Gallery, New Delhi; 'Emerging India', presented by Art Alive Gallery, New Delhi at The Henry Moore Gallery of Royal College of Art, London; ‘Eastern Edge’, Aicon Gallery, New York; Sanskriti Art Gallery, New Delhi; 'Fifty Years of Independence' , Gallery Chitrakoot, Kolkata; Organized by Shilpa Sarit, Kolkata; Sanskriti Art Gallery, Kolkata; Gallery La-Mere, Kolkata; Rotary Club of Kolkata, Chitrakoot, Kolkata; Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata and Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, to name a few.

Apart from this, he has also participated in various annual exhibitions, such as Annual Exhibition, Chawla Art Gallery, New Delhi; 'Entity', Annual Exhibition, M.E.C Art Gallery, New Delhi; Shanghai Art Fair, China presented by Gallery Sanskriti, Kolkata and 18th Anniversary Show', Gallery Sanskriti, Kolkata, to name a few.

Awards and Accolades

He was honored with award for painting from Academy of Arts, Kolkata. Later in 1996, he was bestowed with Nirod Baran Memorial Prize from Rabindra- Bharati University, Kolkata
