About

K Laxma Goud was born on 21st August, 1940 in Nizampur, Medak, Andhra Pradesh. His full name was KalalLaxmaGoud and is popularly known as one reputed Indian painters and draughtsman.Laxma Goud spent his entire childhood in a village of Andhra Pradesh. He is known as one of the artists who have explored several art forms like etching, gouache, pastel, sculpture, glass painting and more.

Though, he is best known for his creativities on art and paintings. He is one of the best painters to portray rural eroticism in his paintings and so his early drawings are popular amongst the art lovers.

K Laxma Goud is also known for the original concepts and the best quality his aquatints and etchings. Being a villager in his childhood, he has the observation of pure rural tradition and craft. When he was at his early age, he was awestruck with leather puppetry and the creativity of terracotta ornamentation. 

Education & Work

K Laxma Goud was fond of art and creativity, thus he perused drawing and painting from the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Hyderabad. He has done several specializations on art and paintings.

Goud has learnt Mural Painting under K.G. Subramanyan. At that time he was the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, Baroda in 1963. While pursuing the specialization Mural Painting, he developed his interests in printmaking and then it became the inspiration for him in the later part of his life. In the university he strengthened the credible voice for the fine art print.

Once he completed his graduation, he decided to get back to his native, Nizampur. When he returned he had the new outlook towards the life and he came back with certain sophisticated and urban culture in him. In his later days, he found himself conscious and attracted towards sexuality and the attraction was an added influence for the relaxed atmosphere of village life. K Laxma Goud realized the difference between the relaxed sexuality and the urban rigid sexuality. Though, she has experienced the both in both cities and villages.

His paintings have interpreted the earlier days and his childhood experiences of rural and tribal vivacity. There are some of his paintings that have showcased the weird urban grid with the combination of poetry and dream. K Laxma Goud has portrayed several small paintings of rural lives in the pallet of dull canvases. Most of his drawing have depicted the combination of rural nostalgia and the eroticism.  

During 1970’s Laxma Goud had already started exploring on his fondness like erotic sexual themes. In his entire career he has seen experimenting with different themes and in late 80’s he worked on traditional roots and has exp0lored several art forms like reverse glass painting, terracotta and other decorative styles.

Laxma Goud has worked as a teacher and a head at the Sarojini Naidu School of Performing Art, Fine Art & Communication, which is under University of Hyderabad. K Laxma Goud has participated in several national and international exhibitions and also has done several solo shows.  

Laxma Goud paintings have been often showcased in Kala Bhavan, Hyderabad. Not only in India, have his paintings been praised in Ansell Gallery in London in the year1973. He showcased and is popularly known as one of the Figurative Indian Artists, who has exhibited his paintings in Warsaw Budapest at the Belgrade Goethe Institute in Munich in the years 1975-76. In the year 1977 he has showcased his paintings in the Sao Paulo Biennale in Brazil. He has also shown his interest in Contemporary Indian Painting, the Festival of India and that has been held in Royal Academy of Art in London, in the year 1982. He has also participated in the exhibition called India in Print at the Koninklijk Institute Vorde at Amsterdam in the year 1983. In USA, he participated and exhibited his paintings at Festival of India in the year 1985. In the year 1987, he associated with the festival named Contemporary Indian Art and Festival of China in Geneva, Switzerland in the year 1987. He is one of the artists from India, who have exhibited his creations in the show named Journey's Within Landscape at the Jehangir Art Gallery in Bombay in the year1992.

Laxma Goud participated in an exhibition at The National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi in the year 1993. Previously in the year 1986, he has showcased his work at the Grey Art Gallery in New York and at Worcester Art Museum. In the year 2000 and 2004 he has participated respectively in Y2K International Exhibition of Prints at National Taiwan Arts and at Manifestations II, organized by Delhi Art Gallery, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and Delhi Art Gallery, New Delhi.

Awards and Accolades

He was awarded in the year 1962 Award in Annual Exhibition of Lalit Kala Academy in Andhra Pradish. Then he bagged awards for two years (1966-1970) again in the Annual Exhibition at the Lalit Kala Academy, Andhra Pradesh. In the Year 1968, he won the silver medal from Hyderabad Art Society in Hyderabad. In the year 1969, he bagged the Gold Medal again from the Hyderabad Art Society, Hyderabad. Finally,  Laxma Goud is on of the artists who has bagged several awards. In the year 1971, he achieved the Gold Medal at Annual Exhibition at The Lalit Kala Academy in Andhra Pradesh.
