Rabin Mondal

Artist Overview

Born in a poor government official\'s family, Rabin started to draw and paint at the age of twelve when his knee got injured and he was confined to bed. The communal riots of 1946 and the Bengal famine of 1943 affected him and he took art as a weapon to protest. He has done few paintings on queens and empresses and gets inspiration from primeval and tribal art. He expresses his innermost self in his works and says that the paintings are to communicate not for decoration. He portrays his works through his bold brush strokes, pencils, oils and charcoal.
